My son is turning 5 gun so it was time for his first gun so I decided to go with the classic Daisy Red Ryder. It is a little big for him but he will grow into it.

One thing that dissapointed me when I was buying it was how hard it was to find. It looks like the days of the BB gun are short. Everyone is switching to Air Soft which I find unfortunate. Air Soft is nice but there isn't anything better than shooting cans with a BB gun.

My son got to experience that today and when he hit his first can he got so excited he started giving everyone high fives.

Another shooter is born!

Great work Jeff! I bet your son had a blast! I intend to go the same route. Incidentally, the little Cricket rifle that Tim got for Lucy is a great first .22 in my opinon. They're surprisingly well made, and are real rifles...just scaled way down for your favorite little shooter.

If you need more air rifles, check out Pyramid Air. If they don't have it, you don't need it! :D

You may have seen this photo in the Life in the Bunker forum, but here it is again anyway. This is me with my son Robert. The M-1 Garand is his High School graduation present. I'm in the process of completely restoring it. It will have a new Wilson match barrel, new parts, fresh parkerizing, and a gorgeous Wenig Fancy-grade walnut stock. Best of all, my buddy Chris is building a pine transit case for it. It will be quite the present when it's done.

However, I digress...I think you've gotten a great starter rifle, and he's off to a flying start!

I love this I'm going to be using my BB gun that was my first and still favorite. My daughter will hopefully love it to.
The model is a 95B Daisy Rogers. She's all beat up but still shoots well, and will work fine to start my girl into the sport. Glad to see the future is in good hands!

Thanks for all of the comments and there isn't a better way to spend time with your kids than shooting cans with a BB gun.

Glen, your son will love that present when he graduates.

Jeff

My son's first gun was a 20 ga. Remington at 12 yrs old. He has progressed to bigger and better ammo :D All of my grand son's are getting a used but completely re-furbished and re-finished .22 semi auto rifle and a .22 Sig Mosquito to "play" with for now. I am quite sure they will all move up to better ammo when they are ready. I on the other had have already got my 11 yr old middle grandson shooting my Sig P220 .45 ACP and he loves it. I think he will be the dangerous one like his grand dad
