Have two Russian kids------21 n 22 brothers that work across the street from me. One shoots the other is new to it. I've been talkin shooting to Mikael for several years.
Both doing hunter safety this weekend and want to go hunting with the ole geezer this October.Guess I've found my mentor ones. Nice lads.

Good for you Dan. That is the core value. Get them out, get them shooting. Show them what a good long walk in nature will do for them and how its a lot harder to shoot a dear that isn't computer animated. More fun too. Let us know how it goes.

Dan,

That blows. Did you promise them air mattresses? Maybe this will restore your hope a little. I shot a High Power match today and one of the competitors brought his 11 year old son. The boy was hacked when they wouldn't let him shoot his 8mm Mauser. So they broke out a 1917 in 30'06 and he proceeded to shoot a full 80 round match with it. Get some! He wasn't a big kid either. If I wasn't so busy trying not to tucker out holding up my own M14, I would like to have watched him shoot. Every time I saw him, he was teasing his younger sister who was shooting the match with an M1 Carbine, laughing, and running the 200 yards from the firing line to the targets to score or replace targets. 30'06 wasn't wearing him down at all. Neither was holding up the long, heavy 1917.

Keep trying. I had hope for the Russian kids. Maybe a little younger would work better? Whatever it takes to get educated shooters into the field. That's the future.

+1 on that.

i fear what will happen w/ the next generation, as most of them seem to be far to sheepish. its not that theyre anti, they just have no experience w/ firearms and are completely appathetic.

LOL, problem I'm running into is:
1. Kids now days do not want to associate with an ole geezer
2 We speak different languages
3. Repeat...they do not want to associate with an ole geezr
4. Hunting/shooting....ain't cheap!
Hell, I do not want them for a relationship!!!!! Just to further shooting and perhaps share some experience .......been a lifetime making mistakes!

Still with keep trying..........part of it!

Guess I kinda did what I started out to do...Mikael has found his future bride and, after a couple of trips to the range, she is crazier about shooting than Mike is!!!! Gonna be a good shooting couple!!!

Dan, good job bringing some new folks into the fold.

My (completely unsolicited) advice is keep it fun, shoot outdoors on nice days, pack a picinic lunch or stop off for burgers-n-shakes afterwards. Spinning targets or metallic silhouette targets help keep the shooting light fun too. Punching holes in paper is good for marksmanship training but it's inherrently boring...especially for younger people.

not only that, but is too labor intensive for my lasy ass!!!

i like just throwing the steel out there, shoot at it for a while and pick it up.

it gets tiring walking out 100 yd or more every few shots to mark holes or change targets!!

Of all the people that needs advice, I NEVER thought it would be you - but here goes anyway!!

Get a good spotter scope (at least a 10x70), use multiple target pages (you know - more than one target per page), and get your mother-in-law to either stand near the target with a walkie-talkie or at least do the running for you. Geeeezzzz! Even I figured out how NOT to have to get off my butt while shooting.
