Nice biulds it looks like the pistol is useing screws instead of rivets if my eyes aren't tricking me. Have you had any trouble with those instead of rivets? I've thought about trying to do a G-biuld myself but not sure if I have the tools to complete it. What brand of recievers did you use and are they what you expected? I don't mean to have so many qeustions but I love ak's and always have interest in home biulds. they look great.

akuser47 thank you for the compliment . Your eyes are as sharp as a hawk, yes they are both screw builds. No problems what so ever, I have several hundred rounds through both of them no FTF or FTE's. No worries about the questions, I love answering questions. I used an Ewbanks receiver with pre drilled holes. The only major hang up I encountered during the build was the mag well and trigger guard alignment. I had a problem getting the mag to seat properly so I had to carefully grind a bit off the rear of the mag well in front of the trigger guard to get the correct mag lock up. IMO this is a minor design flaw in the Ewbanks receiver, not a major deal I made the necessary adjustments and all worked out great. Would I use another, yes. But If I wanted to build a show piece I'd use a superior receiver, maybe a Global trades or something along those lines. These were my first two AK builds and I bought both receivers at the same time and put the time into them to make them work, I guess that's why they call em builds.
I love AK also, but as much as I love the AK, AR's are much easier to build. I've build a half dozen AR's and it is a much smoother process, no hand fabrication what so ever. All you need for the most part is an action block, some simple hand tool's, a barrel wrench, vise and a torque wrench. The AR is a bolt together build for the most part, as long as you use quality components from quality manufacturers.

I have put together a few ar's mostly uppers. I would agree they are pretty straight forward on assembly. I think you are also correct buy good parts and easier biulds will most likely be the result. I did have a bushmaster upper reciever that had somthing wrong with the finish at one time I don't know much about aluminum anodizing but it was Fubar. I called them and they got me set up straight away. I always switch my uppers on my lower that I have had. So I'm happy. I'm toying with the idea of the ARES Defense piston conversion for my m4 upper. I have read that for accuracy the direct impengment is the way to go so on the m4 it will go. I'm hoping it will work well cause for the $400.00 it will cost, when I do get it. I could almost have biult another upper.

GotSig, that looks like a happy dog and some nice countryside. Sometimes I really miss the Texas Prairie. You really feel free out there.
David, I love those AK builds, and yes you are right....there's a reason they call them "Builds"! Most lay people have no idea how much work goes into making a gun function properly. Just curious, on your receiver screws did you use any kind of Loctite or equivalent? Maybe that's not necessary. I know many people use the screws with great sucess. I gotta try an AR build at some point too. Trust me, after all the work I do on M-1 Garands, the idea of ordering parts out of a catalog and simply bolting them together has GREAT appeal to me!
On the AK rifle, I love the little red "G" below the rear sight. That makes it look very "GI issue" in my opinion!

Gotsig, sorry man. I'm a huge dog lover myself and didn't even mention your's, she's a fine looking dog. I also have a black lab, he's an 8 year old that still thinks he's a pup. They are a great bread and great with kids.
Glenn thanks A compliment like that coming from you means alot. Yes I did use loctite red on the screws. I wasn't taking any chances and like I said after several hundreds of rounds nothing has loosened up, not one bit. The kit was from an unissued demilled Romanian Guard AK, the park on the barrel is all original it didn't even need a touch up. The Red G is also original, I left it alone. I wanted to build as an exact reproduction of the Romanian Guard AK that I could. Rumor has it that the Guard AK's were all semi auto, so as far as function it is exactly as it was before the demill.

AKUSER....sorry for the delay, have not been on the forum in some time. the pistol is great, if it misses, its my fault. I'll take a picture of the next target, thought about going shooting this weekend. It is a double action only, and as smooth as ever at about 5lbs....very safe, and very accurate. The best part for a new shooter like me....it will only fire if I pull the trigger, no safeties, no misfires....no fancy grip safeties. When you are ready, just pull the trigger.
The rifle is great too, only had it out a couple of times. I was obliterating clay targets at about 35-40 yards, through dead center with the rifle. The 556 would shoot a hole right through the center and would not break the clay target....coolest thing I have seen in awhile (so I lead a boring life)...the target would not break until enough holes were in the target. The holo site is great for target shooting and close quarters home defense. A friend of mine, who has never shot this kind of rifle, picked it up and hit said clay targets with great accuracy. He tried to steal it from me before I left his house, but I knew what he was up to!

I have done that before also, clays tend to only fall apart when at least 25% or more of it is destroyed. I suppose there is a special bullet that might do it with one shot. That is what My 12 gauge is for LoL! Nice guns though.

Well I shot my GSG-5 today and what a hoot. At 50yards using iron sights. I can hit a three inch steel spinning target 3 out of five times. I don't have very good eyes anymore si I will be putting a redot of sometype on her in the near future and we will see how it goes. 264 rounds so far no problems I think I love this little rifle I want to get the retractable stock for her and a few other items to top her off. I have read post that ATI is being sued by the maker of the MP5 because of copywright infringment. so if the company folds this gun will be worth even more I need to get spare parts for her to make sure!

Well I shot her in her original setup. I liked her alot and then I decided she needed dressed up a little bit so now see what you all think. I have addressed the screw issue that is a problem on these and installed a buffer into cocking tube she is ready for some fun now!! waiting on scope mount to mount my Kobra on her.
