OK people I haven't been around for a while so figured I'd post some pics of a few of my builds. This one is my AK pistol, built from an AMD 65 kit. Enjoy! More to follow .

This is one of my AR builds, based on a no frills approach. Super light weight and just a hare over 5 lbs, all Colt and RRA components.

Here is one for the retro people out there. My Colt model 604 USAF M16 build, another ground up build using all original components, yes all Colt parts.
I hope you all have enjoyed my little photo album, I will post more in the near future.

kinda fond of the "retro colt" myself.
i think its just the 20"bbl w/ the triangle hg's i like. i have one with the a2 upper, buttstock, and the newer lower.
it is is no way "period correct", and have heard about how "wrong" it is from all the purists, but i like it as i have it.

Thanks It's nice to share them with people that enjoy em as much as I do. There is something special about building a weapon in the configuration you want, not just a run of the mill cookie cutter that is made for the masses.

How about one or two of those range reports you are so good at? I'd like to see what kind of accuracy you can get out of those Ak's and both of the AR's as well. They all look good. Tell us how they perform. Pretty please.

Well I don't know about a full blown range report, but I can tell you both the AK pistol and Romanian G rifle shoot great! In fact the G build is the most accurate AK I own, out to 100 yards I was able to get 1 & 1/2" inch groups. The pistol build is a little different, no stock to aid in getting a real steady shot. But I was surprised at how accurate it was. Out to 50 yards I was able to hit everything I aimed at including small rocks etc, it would make a great truck gun or CQC weapon. I ran as much ammo as I could through it in the shortest amount of time and could not get the thing to malfunction. I started with a few 20 round mags then a few thirty's and to top it off a 75 round drum. Every round cycled with perfection I had that baby smoking good, I thought it was going to catch fire, thank God I had a pair of gloves or I would have never been able to hold on to it. The long and short of it was both functioned without any bobbles what so ever. I'm pretty anal about my builds, allot of time and hand fitting go into every piece to insure it will function correctly.

It is hard to imagine that S&W employees can't own some of the guns they make because of MA state laws and you are out dusting rocks with an AK pistol with a 75 round drum magazine. We've lost California, but maybe there is still time to revolt and get some of those stupid MA laws rewritten.
I really want to hear how the retro AR shoots with that thin barrel.

Sorry it took so long here you go.
The retro build with the 20" pencil bbl shoots as good as any factory built weapon equipped with the same components (considering the bbl and upper is from the early 60's). I did a test fire at 100 yards and was able to get very tight groups. 1" groups were no problem and I was able to overlap and even get a few rounds through the same holes a few times. I had the benefit of befriending my Armour in the Army and got basically a full blown education on the M16 and anything els I was able to lay my hands on. Who would have figured I would want to be so close to all of those awesome weapons...LOL! The guy couldn't believe I was hanging around the armory volunteering my free time to do weapons maintenance, but I looked at it like I was getting a free education and also having a blast at the same time. My carbine also shoots very well, the groups are pretty close to the 20" but if I had my choice and length / weight isn't an issue, give me a full sized rifle 20" pencil bbl 1 in 12" twist chrome bore and chamber with 55 grn ammo. This is one of the original twist rates for the M16 and for good reason, when it hits flesh it's bad juju. In short massive tissue damage and terminal disruption. Then when NATO went ahead and adopted the Belgian SS109 the US had to adapt the bbl twist rate to 1 in 7" to accommodate the heaver 62 grn projectile. I recently built another in A1 configuration within original specs, it is truly a devastating weapon. This is my overall choice because it does what the M16 was designed to do.

David,
Wow! I love that retro M-16! Not many people realize the first military AR's were for the air force. That's a great project for sure! Keep 'em coming!
