Hey everybody! Just joined the forum on a suggestion from Tim.

First let me sing Tim's praises, then I'll get to me.

I met Tim throught the AR15.com website. We went back and forth talking about different foreend systems for my Ar build (which I will post pics of in the gunsmithing forum). Tim has the patience of an alternative High School Guidance Counsellor. I flip flopped so many times as to what I wanted to do before coming up with what I think will work the best for me and he never complained or gave up onme once... Always replied to my emails with a speed that would put NASA to shame and they were loaded with information and suggestions. Thanks Tim, for doing what you do...

Ok. That said, a bit about me. I am a New York State Correction Officer and 82d Airborne Division Paratrooper with 2bn 505th PIR. I was raised by a Marine sniper, so needless to say, I grew up with a rifle in my hands. Never made it overseas for combat operations, but did a lot of shooting both with the Military and a couple different branches of Law Enforcement. I shoot IDPA handguns (9mm Glock 26 and Kimber Custom II in .45acp), CMP rifle (AR platform, M1, and M1A1) and recreationally at the local with my friends, my wife and my daughter (she loves to get behind the Ruger 10/22... Good girl).

I have a stock Bushy that I use for the competitive stuff, but wanted something different for playing with, so I recently built my first AR from a kit and am now in the process of tricking it out so to speak. It has been a fun project and I seem to spend hours looking at sites for the next fun thing to add to my toy. Not some crazy overbuilt operator's gun, but I am sticking to the K.I.S.S. motto.

Well, thats about enough for now. I look forward to meeting all of you and exchanging stories. We'll laugh, we'll cry and mabey I can learn something from someone... Look for my build pics in the gunsmithing site and I'd love to hear your comments / suggestions!! Take care and I'll see you all soon!!

Drew, you are our kind of people. Thanks for your service to our country. If you aren't doing anything, you should take a trip down to NC this spring to shoot in the CMP Eastern Games right here in my backyard.

http://www.odcmp.com/Competitions/EasternGames.htm

It was a serious good time last year. Clear sky, 1000 meter military rifle range, rifles, free food, and several hundred good people to shoot with. While I use the M1 or M1A, the military teams will put everyone to shame with their M16's. There were some really high scores last year. Impressive. Come on down!

Thanks for rolling out the welcome mat guys. It's nice to be able to talk to folks who have a sound knowledge base and aren't "snooty" about having the newest hi tech crap. I love to shoot and have been doing it for years in the past and hopefully, for years to come. I always look forward to the opportunity to listen and learn something new...

Talk to you all soon!!

D

Everyone,

First let me say I appreciate all the "thanks for your service" comments. I am sure that you all would willingly write that "blank check" for our country as so many of us had.

It always makes me appreciate what I and every other vet has given when I hear that. I always try to tell service members or anyone I see wearing a uniform or anyting relating to military service "Welcome Home".

I was fortunate to not have to go overseas unlike so many others. I would have gladly done it without complaint. Please always extend the gratitude you have given me to any other service members you meet. I know they would appreciate it.

Sorry for the little rant. Just getting some $h!t off my chest........

Thanks again.
D
