In my own experience my first exposure to rifles and shotguns was at Boy Scout camp in upstate NY. I got that merit badge and the archery badge, too. I loved it. I know there's some controversy about the Scouts about their selection of scoutmasters, but overall it was a positive experience for me. At least when I joined the Army it wasn't the first time I fired a weapon, and missed Expert by 1 shot.

my father organizes the local cub scouts.

id love to open a gunshop. it may be happening soon, next few years, if i do, id love to get a bunch of cheap 22lr's and have a class or something for them. cover basic saftey, and get them shooting a little.

i know alot of saftey should be covered, but i figure get the fundamentasl and get them shooting before they loose intrest.

make it fun for them and theyll come back. after that, you can spend more time on saftey.

not trying to promote just handing them a gun and walk away, just saying, always in a safe direction, dont point at anyting you dont want to destroy, and let them try a few rounds under very close supervision.

hopefully some day.(soon)

I am thinking about that I was in local troop 308 her in Ohio. Camp Berry summer camp I shoot in the .22 shoot with little compitition from anyone there other than troop leaders and assitant troop leaders. Not many of the troopers could shoot. My step dad use to take me shooting once to twice a week with a10/22 ruger with a peep sight on it and at 50yards if I couldn't hit the 10 ring or better I had to clean all his guns even though they were clean. He was retired military so he had a way of getting results from me. I hated him then, But I am so thankful for what he was teaching me now. He always said I would some day thank him.
